Early Years

3+ and 4+ applications are accepted throughout the academic year, with details available here: Early Years at Blackheath High

Junior School

7+ assessment days take place in January for the following September. This consists of an English and Maths assessment, with an early January deadline for registration. 


7+ is the most common entry point for the Junior School, however applications for all age groups are considered. Blackheath High offer Junior School in Action mornings, where you have the opportunity to tour the school and see what life there is like for yourself.

Senior School

11+ applications for Blackheath High are due in October, with entrance exams (English, maths and verbal reasoning) taking place in November. 


Interviews are scheduled for January, and all acceptance results are received by the start of March. 


13+ applications are due by early March, with entrance examinations (English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning) and interviews taking place in mid-March. 


The acceptance deadline is typically mid-April. 


The Senior School also offer Senior School in Action mornings, where student ambassadors will show you around the school, giving you a glimpse into daily life.

Early Years

3+ is the main entry point for Blackheath Prep, with students joining in the Nursery. 


There is a September deadline for the January intake and a November deadline for the September intake. 


The 3+ assessment is in the form of an hour-long play session, with each child being encouraged to spend time working on an activity 1:1 with an adult. 


There is NO 4+ Reception intake.

Junior School

7+ is the second entry point, with applications due by the January preceding the September intake. 


During the assessment day, candidates are assessed in maths, reading, writing, and speaking & listening. Successful candidates tend to be working above age-related expectations for their year group. 



Occasionally, places become available for different age groups. This will be advertised on the school website, and you can register your interest in a different entry point by contacting the admissions team.

Open Days

Blackheath Prep hold two Saturday Family Open Days per year, one in the Summer term and one in the Autumn term. 


They also offer monthly group tours on Wednesday mornings.

Early Years - Junior School

Colfe’s carries out informal assessments (in the form of a play session) for 3+ and 4+ entry. 


This takes place at the start of the Autumn term in the year preceding entry. 


Their two Nursery and three Reception classes have around 20 students each.

Senior School

11+ entrance examinations take place in January each year, with candidates spending a full school day at Colfe’s. 


During this day, they will complete written English and maths exams, participate in a group interview, and have an afternoon of taster lessons. Applications for a September start at a main entry point open in May of the same year.

Junior School

7+ entry at Eltham College is determined through English, maths, and reading assessments. 


The deadline for registration is the beginning of December, with assessments taking place in mid-January. 


Candidates are also invited to a voluntary Taster Event prior to the assessments, where they take place in a range of activities from the curriculum and meet current staff and students.

Senior School

Eltham College assesses for 11+ entry with written papers in Maths and English, and a computer-adaptive verbal and non-verbal reasoning assessment.
